It’s hard to believe the longstanding relationship between Birdman (*rubs hands*) and Lil Wayne Tunechi is coming to an end. After a series a tweets over the past few indicating Wayne wanted out, it’s all coming to a head this week. Wayne filed a $51 Million dollar lawsuit against Birdman and Young Money to release him from his contract.
The lawsuit obtained by TMZ states that Birdman withheld tens of millions of dollars as a result of delay of Wayne’s album, Tha Carter V. Since the Cash Money/Birdman refuses to release Wayne from his contract, he’s entitled to cancel it. In addition to the $51 million dollars, Wayne is also requesting to be joint copyright holder of all Young Money recordings. He’s made it clear he’s taking the kids (Nicki Minaj and Drake) with him.
Supposedly Wayne was supposed to receive an $8 million dollar advance for his upcoming fifth album and an additional $2 million once the album was complete. Wayne has received none of this money at this point in time. It’s rumor that many Young Money/Cash Money artists haven’t gotten all their money from the label.
But it looks as though lines are being drawn with Wayne taking the heavy hitters with him. What’s Birdman left with, IF the lawsuit doesn’t go his way? Looks as though Wayne has a pretty solid case to bring to court. This fight is beginning to get ugly as lawsuits are thrown on the table, hopefully these two can come to an amends or reasonable solution! I will keep you updated as more details from this story become public.
