UNPOPULAR OPINION: A Tragedy in Song: “Hot N*gga” by Bobby Shmurda (via M.B.Watson)

By now we are all familiar with what feels like this Summer’s anthem, “Hot N*gga” and the Shmoney dance.  Just admit it, we all wish we could have been Bobby Shmurda this summer where our trap lives change over night  due to the success of a fun freestyle.

With the summer hype starting to dwindle, I am curious to see what the next hit song will be… “Cold N*gga”..? Kidding.  In all seriousness, one of the reasons Shmurda’s record made it so big was due to word-of-mouth and support from other industry people.  If it weren’t for people spreading the word, he would have never been able to grace the stages of today’s top performers, including his cameo on the Drake vs. Lil Wayne tour.

As bloggers, The Library is always looking for people to support our craft as we are always looking to return the favor.  Today as I was perusing the WordPress Blogosphere, I came across an article written by Marques Watson that reflected a less than popular opinion of the summer hit.  While he admits to hitting the Shmoney Dance when it is played at a party, Watson takes a very different approach to analyzing the actual message of the song.  His analysis reveals many truths about hip-hop, black culture and society in general — topics that spark further intellectual analysis and discussion.  You don’t have to agree with everything Watson argues, however it is definitely a well-written piece that deserves some attention.  So from blogger to blogger — The Library acknowledges your efforts to create a well-rounded conversation.  Click the link below to check it out!
