Justice has finally been served.
Theodore Wafer was found guilty of second degree murder in the shooting death of Renisha McBride by a Detroit jury Thursday . The verdict was delivered after the second day of deliberations.
Wafer was charged with Murder in the second degree and manslaughter after he shot and killed McBride, 19, on the porch of his home last November. Wafer said he could only make out a figure around his house, and that the person pounded on his door, making him fear for his life.
McBride’s parents said that they’re pleased with the verdict but wish this all could have been avoided with a simple call to 911 the night McBride was shot.
“Me and Walter know who she was,” McBride said of her daughter to ABC News. “She was not violent. She was a regular teenager…Her life mattered.”
Wafer is scheduled for sentencing Aug. 21 and could face the maximum penalty for his actions.
