Russell Simmons and Paramount Pictures, have teamed up to produce and fast-track a feature film on the popular urban website, WorldstarHipHop.com. Announced by Paramount on Tuesday, the film is set to be inspired by the “energy and style” that the website offers. Russell Simmons has been tapped to co-produce, along with site founder, Q WorldStar, and MAD tv’s Devon Shepard.
The announcement of the film is a follow up to Adult Swim’s announcement of a partnership with the site to develop a new live action comedy series earlier this year. Plot details are being kept under wraps for now, but we can expect a shoot for the pilot in NYC with “How To Make It In America” creator, Ian Edelman, sometime this Fall.
So, it’s safe to say that Russell Simmons is trolling us now, right? WorldStar is known for its ratchetness and embarrassment to urban culture, so we can’t really expect much from this, but we’ll keep our eyes half open to see where it goes.
